Grades Director

JOB TITLE: GRADES DIRECTOR
Reports to: Pedagogical Administrator
FSLA Qualification: Exempt, 12-month position
SUMMARY: The Austin Waldorf School (AWS) is seeking an experienced and motivated Waldorf educator to assume the role of Grades Director. The Grades Director oversees and leads the grades school (1-8). The Grades Director reports directly to the Pedagogical Administrator (Chief Academic Officer) and works closely with the grades faculty, senior leadership, and administration. This is a 12-month position.
Founded in 1980 and nestled on 33 acres in the beautiful hill country of central Texas, the Austin Waldorf School provides a unique education to students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The curriculum is designed to meet each stage of a student’s development from early childhood, through adolescence, into young adulthood. The programs demonstrate a continued commitment to providing a well-rounded educational experience integrating academic, artistic, and practical disciplines. The school’s mission is to “nurture, inspire, engage, and enlighten the journey toward a more humane, just, and sustainable future.”
The school is accredited through the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS). DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements the grade school’s strategic priorities
- Collaborates with the grades faculty, senior leadership, and parent society leadership
- Oversees operations of the grade school (schedules, policies, protocols, calendar, staffing, etc.)
- Supports the coaching, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development of the grades faculty
- Supports the hiring and integration of new grades faculty and staff
- Addresses parent questions and concerns and effectively resolves conflict, as needed
- Oversees and guides faculty and parents/guardians in student discipline
- Collaborates with the enrollment office, sections directors, and faculty in enrollment and retention
- Provides timely and clear communication to grade school faculty, staff, and parents
- Supports community/adult education events for the grade school parents and guardians
- Organizes and leads faculty meetings, identifies and prioritizes agenda items and follow up
- Uses established governance model (Dynamic Governance) to create positive faculty culture and engage in transformative change
REQUIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree is preferred
- Have a Waldorf teacher training certificate and experience as a Waldorf educator
- Minimum 5-8 years of successful Waldorf teaching experience and evidence of pedagogical mastery
- Personal qualities of maturity, humility, self-reflection, strong work ethic, and a “whatever it takes” or “can do” attitude
- Supporting the mission and vision of Austin Waldorf School
- Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically
- Entrepreneurial energy and ambition necessary for a growing program
- Possessing skills in leadership and collaboration, relationship/team-building, and an ability to build consensus
- Ability to maintain a calm, positive and professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures
- Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
- Demonstrates ability to hold financial and parent/faculty/staff matters in confidence
- Skilled with Google Suite, data management, and other web-based tools
- Works predominantly in an indoor, office environment, but other duties could involve working outside in various weather conditions
