Head of School
Mar 29 2022 | Waldorf School of New Orleans | New Orleans, LA
The mission of Waldorf School of New Orleans is to provide a compelling, developmentally appropriate, faculty-led and child-centered Waldorf Education to children from racially, culturally, and socio-economically diverse families throughout Greater New Orleans. Our students develop foundational skills for critical thinking, empathy, and engagement in their communities to effect positive change. Administration, Faculty, and Board work collaboratively and respectfully to ensure their own continual growth, so that they can foster a dynamic learning environment.
The Head of School at Waldorf School of New Orleans (WSNO) carries the vision and mission of the school in the administration realm. They will provide service leadership to the school staff, and a faculty colleague whose main focus is responsiveness to faculty needs. They will serve as the primary coordinator responsible for the school - faculty, staff, development coordinator, Board & board committees, Parent Council, and the parent-community - working to keep all groups on task toward accomplishing the school’s short and long term goals.
They will act as a liaison, representative, and primary spokesperson between the school and other organizations in the wider community and the general public. WSNO is located at two campuses and currently has just under 160 students enrolled. The uptown campus on Peniston accommodates Early Childhood classes and is tied to the founding of the school in 1999. The main campus, housing nursery through grade 8, recently relocated to a larger building in the historic 7th Ward neighborhood in New Orleans, and the next Head of School will be expected to continue the work to grow enrollment and engage with the community. The Head of School’s cultural competency of New Orleans is key to building and expanding relationships with business owners and organizations to ensure that the diversity of the school is reflective of the city. More broadly they will maintain and grow interest in Waldorf Education in New Orleans and will work to implement the WSNO Strategic Plan.
