The Freedom Family Cooperative is welcoming applications for a warm, joyful, and confident Games and Movement Teacher beginning August 2022.

The Freedom Family Cooperative is a thriving initiative located in the Hill Country of Central Texas, with a community of dedicated parents and teachers. Founded in the fall of 2020, we serve students in Early Childhood – 8th Grade four days per week (Mon – Thur.). We are a group of Waldorf devotees who honor health freedom. We are administering a traditional Steiner curriculum and do not subscribe to the “woke” liberal agenda.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, possesses enthusiasm and motivation to work collaboratively with colleagues, and demonstrates familiarity and interest in the philosophy and methods of Waldorf Education.

Position Summary
The Games and Movement Teacher will be an experienced movement or physical education teacher, trained movement therapist, and/or Occupational Therapist with demonstrated ability to craft a developmentally appropriate movement curriculum for groups of children grades 1-8. A love of and experience in the arts and/or familiarity with Spatial Dynamics or Occupational Therapy is extremely beneficial. Waldorf teaching experience or experience working in other progressive independent school environments is preferred.

Job Description
Engage students in a lively, developmentally appropriate Games and Movement curriculum for 1st-8th grades.
-Plan and deliver non-competitive movement classes using a variety of Waldorf and non-Waldorf resources, with a goal of improving mind-body connections and fostering the development of social skills.
-Adapt and differentiate movement lessons to student needs, especially as it pertains to students with sensory/OT needs.

Engage parents.
-Be available to parents for collaboration on student needs, including twice-yearly family-teacher conferences.
-Write the required narrative reports on students in Grades 1-8 participation and movement abilities

Collaborate with fellow teachers.
-Work with Grades 1-8 teachers to find points of overlap in other subjects where Games can be integrated into the curriculum, including organizing the annual Pentathlon.
-Work in partnership with a variety of specialty teachers to help create a rich, diverse festival life, including providing guidance and leadership during the school’s annual events.

Participate in the larger school community.
-Attend faculty meetings and occasional special events (open houses, festivals, etc).

Ideal Candidates Will:
-Possess strong coaching/classroom management skills as appropriate.
-Prior teaching experience--preferably in a Waldorf or other progressive school setting.
-Be willing to engage in Waldorf training over the summer and/or take Waldorf curriculum-development courses within the first few years of employment.

Physical Requirements:
-Stand and walk for extended periods of time and significant lengths.
-Move equipment related to games class.
-Use a computer for report-writing, email communication, and simple record-keeping.
-Squat, stoop and/or bend over.

We opened this school year with 90 students - more than doubling over a summer. We now have a faculty/staff of 19. We are K-8 with stand-alone classes for K-5 and our middle school is blended for portions of their day but we are hiring for an additional lead Middle School teacher to enable each class to be on its own next school year. We have Games, Handwork, Drama, Orchestra, and Spanish.

We are currently in the process of purchasing a property and forming a PMA to protect what we are building.
