Summer Nature Programs Teacher

The primary role of our summer teachers are to lead or assist in providing 100% outdoor programs to youth in a joyful, warm, and meaningful way. This requires active participation and understanding of Merrohawke’s nature-based curriculum to meet the children’s needs.
Through an authentic passion both for the outdoors and children, our teachers guide learning in nature, serve as positive role models, ensure the safety of all participants, support the physical and emotional needs of youth through the day, help set up and maintain equipment used in programming, and actively and positively contribute to daily planning and debriefing meetings.
We look for caring, compassionate, enthusiastic people who respect children with love and reverence, are deeply connected to nature, and wish to inspire and nurture the same in others.
Minimum Qualifications
Familiarity with Waldorf education, handwork, nature mentoring, ancestral earth skills, naturalist studies, or environmental education
At least two years teaching in an outdoor, nature-based learning environment
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrated comfort in working outdoors in all seasons in all weather
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Desired Qualifications
Experience teaching in Waldorf setting or outdoor experiential learning
Commitment to joyful hard work, and a positive attitude
Excellent communication skills
Ability to set and communicate boundaries for youth in a positive way
Commitment to storytelling, singing, playing musical instruments or the arts
Certified or willing to become certified in Wilderness First Aid & CPR
Hours, Salary & Schedule
Compensation is competitive and based on experience. The typical schedule runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A commitment of at least 6 weeks is preferred.
