Forest School Teacher 2022-2023

Through an authentic passion both for the outdoors and children, our teachers guide learning in nature, serve as positive role models, ensure the safety of all participants, support the physical and emotional needs of youth through the day, help set up and maintain equipment used in programming, and actively and positively contribute to daily planning and debriefing meetings. We look for caring, compassionate, enthusiastic people who respect children with love and reverence, are deeply connected to nature, and wish to inspire and nurture the same in others.
This is a 95% outdoor setting. The school year follows a college-type semester schedule: Sept-December and late-January - late May.
Minimum Qualifications
Be familiar with Waldorf education and/or nature-based learning
At least two years teaching in an outdoor setting during the school year
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrated comfort in working outdoors in all seasons
Desired Qualifications
Love of teaching and mentoring elementary and/or middle school-aged children
Demonstrated teaching experience with Waldorf early childhood education
Demonstrated teaching experience with outdoor, experiential education, and /or naturalist studies
Certification, degree or coursework in elementary or Waldorf grades teaching
Comfort and experience with storytelling, singing, playing musical instruments or the arts, such as handwork, wildcrafting, whittling, herbal studies, etc.
Certified or willing to be certified in Wilderness First Aid & CPR
Hours, Salary & Schedule
Compensation is competitive and based on experience. Typical teaching schedule runs Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with time on Mondays for staff meetings and curriculum planning.
Position may be part-time or full-time.
