Handwork Teacher

River Valley Waldorf School is seeking a fully-trained, experienced, and dynamic 1st-8th grade Waldorf-trained Handwork teacher to join our dedicated faculty beginning in the fall of 2021. The position requires authentic warmth, good humor, joy and enthusiasm for working with children. The ideal candidate must also be willing to commit to the on-going work of diversity, equity, and inclusion and have familiarity or interest in best practices of Waldorf Education.
General Description
The Handwork Teacher should be able to work collaboratively with school faculty to schedule and plan developmentally appropriate projects, with an understanding that students within a given class will make progress on their work at varying rates.
Qualifications
Candidates for this position ideally hold a Waldorf Teacher certification, M.Ed. in Waldorf Elementary Education, or handwork certification and/or experience teaching handwork and mastery knowledge of knitting, sewing, crochet, embroidery, etc..
Ideal candidate will also possess:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both children and adults;
Classroom management skills and positive discipline strategies;
A passion for Waldorf education, collaboration and growth;
Ability to self-start and create lesson plans for a range of abilities;
Flexibility and ability to work with a variety of communication styles;
Experience in teaching elementary and middle school students;
An eagerness to collaborate deeply with colleagues and school parents; and
A commitment to ongoing professional development in both Waldorf pedagogy and the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Compensation
This is a part-time position compensated hourly or as a part-time salaried position. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
River Valley Waldorf School is located in Upper Bucks County, Pennsylvania on the hills overlooking the Delaware River. Our property is situated in a serene, rural setting, yet is only 40 minutes from the Lehigh Valley metropolitan area and just over an hour from both New York City and Philadelphia. Housed in a former public elementary school building, our programs include grades one through eight, kindergarten, nursery, and a caregiver-child program. The full Waldorf curriculum currently includes Spanish, handwork, sculptural arts (woodworking & soapstone carving), fine arts, gardening, music, and movement. The River Valley community is tightly-knit, supportive, and welcoming, and the school has recently deepened its commitment to diversity and equity initiatives. The school is a full member of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN) and is accredited by both the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS).
