8th Grade Class Teacher

The Austin Waldorf School, a co-educational, K-12 day school located in Austin, Texas, seeks a full-time 8th Grade Class Teacher to begin July 1, 2022. The rising 8th-grade class is a well-formed, interested, and dynamic class that loves to engage with their work and with life.
We are seeking an experienced and certified Waldorf teacher who has demonstrated great success in teaching middle school, and who is also interested in joining the Austin Waldorf School community for many years to come. Such an individual will model empathy, dynamism, flexibility, initiative, and collaboration skills. The candidate will demonstrate proficiency and comfort with classroom management and group facilitation, mastery of Waldorf curriculum and pedagogy, as well as skilled communication in writing and speaking. A core member of the middle school department, the new 8th-grade teacher will work closely with colleagues in the grades and high school to foster a welcoming, challenging, and adventurous learning environment for the eighth-grade class. The new 8th-grade teacher will be an enthusiastic representative of the school and its programs and will play an important role in preparing students to transition into Austin Waldorf High School.
Class teacher responsibilities include:
- Teach main lesson blocks throughout the year
- Teach regularly scheduled skills classes
- Contribute to weekly middle school and grade school meetings
- Lead parent morning and offers developmental & curricular presentations
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians
- Collaborate with student support services and colleagues
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Waldorf Teacher Training Certification
- Successful and experienced at teaching middle school
- A commitment to the work of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
- The ability to honor the lives of middle school students with respect, attention, curiosity, and humor is a must.
