Job Title: Spanish Teacher

Duration: School year from August through June; plus Faculty Work Days Work Hours:7:45am - 3:30pm, Mon-Fri

Overview: The Spanish teacher is responsible for the delivery of a Spanish curriculum for grades one through eight in a manner that is aligned with Waldorf pedagogical practices. It is expected that the Spanish teacher works as a part of a committed team of teachers and is an active member of our school community, and possesses a commitment to personal and professional development and an enthusiasm for collegial work.

The ideal candidate should be a native speaker and have experience teaching all grade level students implementing a creative and developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Areas of Responsibility:
Prepare for and teach dynamic lessons to improve vocabulary and conversational skills
Implement cultural awareness through the study and celebration of traditions, food, and history.
Make necessary adaptations and modifications to Spanish instruction as per a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Actively participate in the life of the school and broader school community, including festivals, concerts, performances, staff meetings, all school meetings, and other after-school activities, as assigned.
Document student progress and complete year-end student reports by the agreed upon date.
Actively supervise, both during indoor and outdoor, students with focus, even when distractions are present.


Training:
Red Cross/CPR First Aid certification (classes are usually offered during Faculty Work Days)
Maintain a working knowledge of school policies and procedures:
o fire, shelter in place, and evacuation procedures
o proper documentation of children's injuries
o location and use of first aid kit
o playground rules
Periodic evaluations and observations:
Specialty teachers are evaluated by the professional development committee each year, no later than March.
Specialty teachers will be observed by a mentor periodically throughout the year.

Background required:
Education:
Related college-level course work preferred
Waldorf training or study preferred
Experience:
Related work with children, preferably in a classroom setting
Study of Waldorf pedagogy and Anthroposophy preferred

Skills, etc.:
Very knowledgeable in knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and sewing (by hand and machine)
Works well with children
Good communication skills
Calm, gentle manner
Well-organized, efficient
Works well with colleagues
Reliability and punctuality are required

Remuneration:
Base Salary: $33,000
