Position Title: FPK Teacher
Reports to: FPK Program Director
FTE: 40 hrs/week
Wage: $17/hr
Hours: M-F 8:30am-5pm

Program Overview

FPK provides integrated services to a vulnerable population unlike any other program in our community. We emphasize a wrap-around model where children experiencing homelessness receive the attention and care they need and where parents are given tools that strengthen their skills and build protective factors that mitigate the negative impacts of homelessness.

First Place Kids offers four distinct areas of service, which work together to provide a one-of-a-kind model of support to families in need:

-FPK Preschool

-Family Resource Referrals

-Family Support Activities

-Community Engagement

Position Duties

Act as Substitute Preschool/Nursery Teacher as needed
Act as Lead Childcare Staff during afternoon Family Support Activities Act as Preschool/Nursery Lead Teacher during daily 10 min staff breaks
Prepare daily classroom activity supplies, as per direction from FPK Head Teacher
Provide individual child behavioral support as needed
Assist children with toileting/diapering as per FPK Toileting Procedures
Prepare daily snacks & lunch
Sanitize FPK as per sanitization protocols, including washing dishes
Maintain FPK kitchen organization & cleaning schedule
Act as a Mandatory Reporter in accordance to abuse reporting laws.
Conduct job responsibilities in consideration of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and strength-based interactions.

Required Qualifications and Skills

At least one year experience as a teacher in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program, in the care of preschool aged children OR
Completion of 20 credits (semester system) or 30 credits (quarter system) of training at a college or university in Early Childhood Education or Child Development OR
A one-year state or nationally recognized credential related to preschool-age care OR
Documentation of attaining at least step 8 in the Oregon Registry
Demonstrated experience functioning with flexibility in high stress situations.
Ability to adhere to agency philosophies regarding curriculum and safety.
Ability to supervise preschool children and ensure a safe environment.
Ability to respond to emergent needs of a busy classroom and outdoor play areas. This includes the physical ability to move quickly and respond to children who are very active.
Ability to interact with children at their eye level; sitting in child-sized chairs, sitting on the ground, kneeling, stooping, and bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Demonstrated ability to relate sensitively and non-judgmentally with children and parents.
Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen (including marijuana)
Be currently enrolled in Central Background Registry or ability to become enrolled.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Experience with Waldorf Early Childhood pedagogy.
Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and Positive Discipline.
Experience working with families from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Bilingual English/Spanish
