Assistant Preschool Teacher

The Teacher assists and is supervised by the Lead Teacher.
The Teacher serves in a support position to the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing a curriculum, communicating positively with parents, and actively participating in classroom meetings.
The Teacher provides support to the lead teacher with the implementation of the preschool program, and with the lead teacher cares for the well-being and safety of the children.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:45 am to 1:45 pm (extended to 4:30 pm on some days)
Responsibilities
• Assist the lead teacher with preparation of the environment and activities provided for the children
• Provide physical care and emotional support as needed by individual children
• Assist in classroom management and activities, using positive discipline techniques
• Help to ensure safety in the classroom and the play yard
• Accompany the children to the bathroom when needed
• Help with safe arrival, dismissal, and pick up of children as directed
• Help with purchase and preparation of snacks and supplies
• Help with day-to-day cleaning at the end of the day
• Assist in After Care (Owls’ Nest) as needed if no. of children exceeds 12
• Help with maintaining high cleanliness standards
• Communicate with the lead teacher concerning classroom observations and parent involvement
• Attend and participate in preschool events, including but not limited to, parent evenings, festivals, open houses, workshops, etc.
• Attend workshops and professional development trainings
• Attend faculty meetings (once a week)
• Available 2 weeks before the school year begins for meetings & preparation
• Available to substitute for the lead teacher when needed
• Available to lead or assist in some weeks of our summer camp program
Minimum Qualifications for the Teacher
1. Preferred 12 ECE units or 6 ECE units and working towards 12 units in the following:
Child Growth and Development, Child Family and Community, and Pre-School Curriculum.
2. 2 years Waldorf preschool teaching experience. Preference given to Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Training graduates.
3. Current CPR/First Aid certificate and EMSA Health, Safety & Nutrition certificate
Compensation:
Highly competitive hourly rate, non-exempt position will full medical benefits.
