Seeks a Lower School Chair for Grades 5-8
The Lower School Chair of Grades 5-8 is a collaborative leadership role integral to the success of our Lower School.
In accordance with the School’s mission, the Lower School Chair guides teachers, students, and families as they journey through the primary grades at The Waldorf School of Garden City.
This is the perfect opportunity for a former Class or Subject Teacher, with strong administrative skills and a passion for Waldorf education. We welcome someone with dynamic ideas to join our dedicated team. We value innovative exploration of the curriculum while providing an excellent Waldorf education for our students.
This person must embrace the School’s dedication to professional development, including Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) work.
This position reports to the Faculty Chair.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Faculty Support
• Promotes the Anthroposophical view of human development in faculty work
• Cultivates community and collaboration within the section and liaisons with the administration
• Serves on the Professional Development Committee to further advance and support the faculty and ensure mentorship
• Promotes development of curriculum to meet the School’s DEIJ aims
• Facilitates effective communication
• Conducts class observations to ensure excellence in education and support of faculty.
Administration
• Represents Lower School and promotes the well-being of the School overall
• Organizes and facilitate section meetings, including child studies, Anthroposophical study, artistic activities and business
• Oversees student assessment for admissions and in-house assessments and student reports
• Coordinates district resources
• Works closely with Admissions process
Parents and Community
• Organizes and conducts parent education opportunities
• Manages communication between faculty and parents. Attends class meetings. Oversees written reports and conferences
• Supports and educates families transitioning from Middle School to the High School
• Participates in the festival life of the School
• Maintains cordial parent relationships and knows what is living in the parent community
