Micha-el School is seeking an upper grades Woodworking teacher to join our dedicated faculty beginning immediately. The position requires authentic warmth, good humor, joy, and enthusiasm for working with children.
General Description
The Woodworking teacher should be able to work collaboratively with school faculty to schedule and plan developmentally appropriate projects, with an understanding that students within a given class will make progress on their work at varying rates.
Qualifications
Candidates for this position ideally have experience working with middle school aged students and working in a Waldorf setting. In addition, the Woodworking teacher should have excellent skills working with hand tools.
Ideal candidate will also possess:
Demonstrated enthusiasm for Waldorf education;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both children and adults;
Facility in working with hand tools and wood;
Classroom management skills and positive discipline strategies;
Confident classroom presence;
Ability to self-start and create lesson plans for a range of abilities;
Skill in leading Woodworking projects with students that may include carving and constructing;
Flexibility and ability to work with a variety of communication styles;
Experience in teaching elementary and middle school students;
An eagerness to collaborate deeply with colleagues and school parents;
A commitment to ongoing professional development in both Waldorf pedagogy and the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion;
Waldorf training and experience (preferred); and
3–5 years of experience working with children (preferred).
Responsibilities:
Work cooperatively with colleagues to support the Woodworking program;
Engage in professional development;
Collaborate with team members to facilitate interdisciplinary instruction that is inclusive of all learners;
Maintain the Woodworking space and organization of tools and materials;
Maintain a positive learning environment that is safe, joyful, and nurturing; and
Prepare and execute lessons/students projects.
End of year reports that include a lesson overview and individual observations of each student by 6/30/22.
Compensation
This is a part-time position compensated hourly. Days of work could range from 1-3 days per week depending on availability.
