Movement Teacher
Feb 07 2022 | Malamalama Waldorf School | Kea`au, Hawai`i (Big Island)
MOVEMENT TEACHER
Thinking about a positive change? Interested in living in a tropical location in Hawai`i? Malamalama Waldorf School is actively seeking a dynamic, creative, and nurturing, part-time Movement Teacher for the upcoming SY2022/23 as we prepare to say farewell to our beloved Movement Teacher after almost 30 years of dedication.
Our ideal candidate will have experience teaching Movement to students in grades 1-8 Waldorf School and have certification in Spacial Dynamics®, Eurythmy, or other movement disciplines. In addition, experience as a physical education teacher and/or trained movement therapist is also welcome. Each candidate will show examples of the ability to create a developmentally appropriate movement curriculum for classes of children 6-14 years of age. Able to draw upon a repertoire of cooperative games along with an understanding of the Greek Pentathlon and Medieval Games.
Malamalama Waldorf School is nestled on 20 acres in Hawaiian Paradise Park located on the East side of the Big Island. Hawai`i Island is rich in cultural diversity as well as boasting a most unusual landscape including volcanic activity, ranch lands, and beaches. You can surf in the morning and don winter apparel for a respectful visit to the snowy slopes of the sacred Maunakea.
Our inspiring faculty are enthusiastic with a commitment to Waldorf education delivered with warmth and through collaboration. Our dedicated Specialty Subject teachers provide Movement, Hawaiian Studies and Language, Japanese language, handwork, and music. Our parents are supportive and involved in many areas of the school, including active participation in festivals, and sharing their talents by volunteering to meet the needs of the school.
We value teachers who are open to learning about other cultures, enjoy nurturing healthy relationships with parents, students, and colleagues. We seek candidates with excellent teaching, classroom management, and communication skills and a deep understanding of students and their development.
We seek to hire an individual that is self-directed, creative, artistic, collaborative, knowledgeable of and committed to Waldorf education and Anthroposophy. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher with prior teaching experience (ideally in a Waldorf school) as well as completion of, or current enrollment in, Waldorf teacher training. Student teachers in training are encouraged to apply as well.
We offer a competitive hourly wage based on education and experience and a benefits package, including support for professional development.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, along with names and contact information of three professional references, to info@hawaiiwaldorf.org
