Unique and Fulfilling Career Opportunity at Sparrow Academy in San Diego, California!
We are looking for an earnest and inspired educator to join our team. At Sparrow Academy, childhood is honored as a unique phase of life, and child development is at the core of our practice. Teachers create purposeful and imaginative lessons, integrating the arts with the humanities, math, and science. They foster a school culture of respect, responsibility, and love for one another. It is through these practices that students at Sparrow can reach their highest potential as human beings.
Sparrow boasts devoted teachers and staff who acknowledge the importance of educating the whole child: head, heart, and hands. If Sparrow’s values and school culture resonate with you, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
About Sparrow Academy
Sparrow Academy is a charter school guided by the core principles of Waldorf education, located in La Mesa, California with over 380 students in grades TK-8th. Founded in 2011, the school’s mission is “to cultivate conscientious, engaged citizens through a scholarly and artistic study of the humanities, math and science, grounded in Waldorf philosophy.” Sparrow Academy is a member of the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education, which ensures that public Waldorf Education is ever evolving and continuously renewed through practice, research, observation, and active reflection.
Job Description
This opening begins in August of 2022. Teachers loop with their students for two to three years and become experts in their subject matter. Instructional responsibilities involve integrating the artistic and developmentally targeted Waldorf pedagogy with Common Core standards to create meaningful, original lessons. Teachers are supported through on-site Waldorf training, mentoring and a very generous professional development budget. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, teachers contribute to the life of the school through committee work, festivals, and collaboration.
Qualifications
Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree and a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Waldorf experience and training is desirable, but not required. At least two years of elementary classroom teaching experience is required.
The successful applicant has a deep desire to learn new skills and ideas, contributing to their own personal and professional growth. A solid understanding of positive discipline and restorative practices is strongly desired.
To apply, send an introduction letter and resume to:
