Full Time August 2022 - June 2023, continuing
Okanagan Waldorf School (OWS) is seeking a Grade 1 Class Teacher to shepherd our diverse population of children in an atmosphere that encourages active inquiry and fosters individual growth, promotes respect for self, others, and the world in which they live. This position will begin August 2022 with a class of 8 current grade 1 students (rising to grade 2 in Fall 2022) and introducing 10-14 rising grade 1 (from our 2021/2022) kindergarten class to create an exuberant grade 1/2 class.
The ideal candidate is required to hold a certificate to teach through the BC Teachers Regulation Branch and be motivated by curriculum inspired by the educational practices of Rudolf Steiner. Applicants that have completed their Waldorf Grades Teacher Training from an AWSNA certified training facility and have had 3-5 years minimum of previous class teaching experience are highly preferred. Faculty and Staff at OWS are proud of the rapid growth experienced over the last few years, which exemplifies our uniquely contemporary expression of Waldorf Education.
Besides teaching, responsibilities include attendance at regular department and faculty meetings, committee work, lesson planning, participation in the planning and implementing of festivals, preparing written student reports, and meeting with parents. The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong classroom management skills, a deep grounding in the development of the young child, will have the ability to build professional relationships with parents, faculty, and staff, have a love for the outdoors, understand the benefits of outdoor programming within the school day, and will enthusiastically join the collaborative work of our school.
REQUIREMENTS
• 3 - 5 years minimum of previous class teaching in a Waldorf Grades program
• Have obtained or have the ability to obtain Certification under the BC Teachers Regulation Branch
