Kindergarten and Early Childhood

Huckleberry Preschool Teacher
Jan 28 2022 | Whidbey Island Waldorf School | Clinton, WA
Whidbey Island Waldorf School is seeking a lead early childhood teacher with a focus on the care and education of children 3-4 years old and their families. This position will be full time, 5 days per week, with contact hours 8:30-12:30 each day, and additional supervisory responsibilities of the afternoon program and its teacher.
The ideal candidate will have a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and be able to serve the children and their parents in a manner consistent with the principles of Waldorf education and the understanding of child development inherent in it. They will also be warm, responsible, thoughtful; have prior experience with young children; and have completed Waldorf and/or LifeWays teacher training or have a commitment to completing such training.
The school is housed in a purposely designed building surrounded by 100 acres of preserved land and trails. The classes have access to outdoor play spaces and the trails in the surrounding forest for walks and study. Our school’s depth of relationship to the seasonal festivals, high caliber teachers, engaged parent body and beautiful island location all combine to make us a “destination” school. Founded in 1985, the Whidbey Island Waldorf School is located on the south end of Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound within the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains.
Whidbey Island is a unique and idyllic place to live, especially for people with young children or people looking to semi-retire. It’s a peaceful, family-oriented atmosphere with farmers markets, beaches, trails, art galleries, music and restaurants. Even though the island offers a rural setting, bustling cultural life and opportunities in downtown Seattle are just an hour away via the nearby ferry. One of the restaurants has a tagline: So magical, the ferries take you there.
