Kindergarten and Early Childhood

Lead Kindergarten Teacher
Dec 14 2021 | Swallowtail Waldorf School & Farm | Outside of Portland, Oregon
Swallowtail Waldorf School & Farm is seeking a Kindergarten Teacher for 2022/2023.
Come join the Early Childhood team at Swallowtail Waldorf School & Farm! Our program is thriving and we enjoy a particularly close-knit and collaborative collegial group, a dedicated and supportive parent body, and strong enrollment even through COVID. We seek a capable, caring, and experienced Kindergarten teacher for the 2022-23 school year.
Swallowtail serves students from PreK through Grade 8 and we are located at the intersection of rural Oregon farmland and the Portland suburbs. Our main campus features large, thoughtfully designed classrooms with ample storage, a library and large multi-purpose room, and dedicated rooms for music, Spanish, handwork, and science. The building is on 6 acres, which also includes plenty of trees, a very large field, playground, covered basketball court, and early childhood play yard. Our farm campus includes areas dedicated to biodynamic agriculture as well as native forest, meadow areas, and wetlands bordered by a river and pond.
We welcome applicants who:
-Believe strongly in Waldorf Education. We are open to candidates who possess a variety of education experiences including Waldorf Teacher training (completed or currently enrolled) or a BA or MA in education or related field
-Have at least two years classroom teaching experience, with preference given for work in a Waldorf School
-Possess excellent classroom management skills
-Are able to adapt the curriculum to the skills and needs of the students in front of them
-Have a ready willingness to accept both positive and constructive feedback, and to be part of a culture that values professional growth
-Have strong written and verbal communication skills
-Possess the desire and ability to work collaboratively with all members of the school community
-Demonstrate a love of children and a deep desire to support their growth
-Having a deep love of nature, knowledge in outdoor education, and farming are a plus
-The ideal candidate will also enjoy leading their class outdoors in any type of weather as we are located in the heart of the Pacific Northwest and don’t believe in bad weather, as long as you have the right kind of gear
Swallowtail School is an associate member of AWSNA and a full member of WECAN
This is a full time position, with tuition remission, and vision/dental insurance.
Please send a letter of intention, resume, and three references to Jessica Foster, at Jessica@swallowtailschool.org
