Preschool Director - Holiday/Weekend/Aftercare Programs

Little Gems of the Sierra is a Waldorf-Inspired non-profit preschool in Truckee, California. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our Holiday & Weekend Program Director will be responsible for running our existing Waldorf inspired program during the winter season. (Should there be a community interest this program may expand to a year round holiday and weekend program). There is also the possibility of this Director position running our aftercare program if the Director was interested in both positions. The holiday and weekend program runs daily from 8am - 4pm. The aftercare program runs Monday - Friday 3:30-5:30pm.
The Director is the lead administrator who will maintain policies, manage staff and oversee daily operations while maintaining a happy healthy safe environment for all children, staff and parents of the school.
The Director will create strong leadership and collaboration with the teaching team, parents, and board of directors and will oversee enrollment, staffing and scheduling, and curriculum enrichment.
The Director also works with the management team to address conflicts in all constituency bodies: director and staff, staff and staff, staff or director and parent, and parent and parent.
The Director will fulfill the main administrative duties for the weekend/holiday program (aftercare program optional) but is also anticipated to spend a dedicated portion of their day working in the classroom with the children on a regular basis.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the teacher team for the toddler and preschool groups.
- Develop and maintain educational program and set educational standards.
- Review lesson plans and activities with lead teachers to ensure standards are being upheld and that the core Waldorf curriculum is being implemented.
- Maintain all schedules: staffing schedule, student enrollment, family vacation requests.
- Recruit new staff members, conduct preliminary interviews, and recommend to the management team of the preschool.
- Maintain policies and procedures in collaboration with the management team.
- Meet with parents and staff to discuss students’ progress.
- Ensure facilities are maintained and cleaned according to state regulations.
- Help staff resolve conflicts between children.
- Assist staff in communicating with parents and support a positive parent experience.
- Assist and fill in for teachers and staff when necessary.
- Lead efforts to find grants for the preschool.
- Represent Little Gems and its values to the wider community.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend and notify staff of professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Serve on committees as required.
- Meet with other professionals and lead teachers to discuss individual students' needs and progress.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:
- Excellent communication, organization and conflict resolution skills.
- Confidence in leading efforts to build our program from the ground up and developing a long-term strategic plan for a potential continued holiday and weekend program in the winter months. Should there be a community interest this program may expand to a year round holiday and weekend program.
- Working knowledge of Waldorf philosophy, curriculum and the daily rhythm of the program.
- Strong collaboration to forge relationships across our community.
- Previous school administration experience.
- Dedication to working with young children.
Educational requirements - Child Care Center Directors shall have completed one of the following:
(1) High school graduation or GED; completion, with passing grades, of 15 semester or equivalent quarter units as specified in (h)(1)(A) and (h)(1)(B) below at an accredited or approved college or university; and at least four years of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program.
(A) Three of the 15 units required in (h)(1) above shall be in administration or staff relations.
(B) Twelve of the 15 units required in (h)(1) above shall include courses that cover the general areas of child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum.
(2) An associate of arts degree from an accredited or approved college or university with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development; and at least two years of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program.
(A) Three semester or equivalent quarter units shall be in administration or staff relations.
(3) A bachelor's degree from an accredited or approved college or university with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development and at least one year of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program.
(A) Three semester or equivalent quarter units shall be in administration or staff relations.
(4) A Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or a Child Development Program Director Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. (See Title 22 regulations 101215.1 for more information)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds. Must be in good physical health and pass a TB test. Must comply with California State immunization laws
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: at least 18 years of age, current CPR certification, pass live scan background check.
