After Care Grades School Teacher

The Grade School After-School Care program runs from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. daily, and includes a snack as well as both indoor and outdoor play times. The role of the teacher includes responsibility for preparing the snack and for cleaning up after the students have left.
Hours for the position are 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The outcomes to be produced by the Grade School After-School Care Teacher include:

• Creation of a relaxed and rich play experience for students in a secure and healthy environment
• The students are held with warmth, while at the same time being provided with healthy boundaries.

In achieving these outcomes, the teacher may not utilize any method that is inconsistent with Waldorf education methods as accepted by Eastside Community School, nor violate any policy of ECS.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties of the Grade School After-School Care Teacher are to:
1. Supervise and assure the safety and security of a group of students (ages 6- 13)
2. Prepare and serve a healthy snack to students
3. Provide activities to engage students of different ages (includes playing with children and supervising homework as needed)
4. Create and adhere to a daily after-school care rhythm
5. Maintain a clean, orderly, and beautiful care environment
6. Maintain required records (such as sign in/sign out sheets)
7. Communicate with parents as needed
8. Work collaboratively with colleagues
9. Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Warm, caring, disciplined way with children
2. Flexibility and authority with a wide age range of children
3. Experience caring for children
4. Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
5. Ability to work collaboratively
6. Detail-oriented with strong attention to follow-through
7. Computer literacy desirable
8. Able, unassisted, to lift and carry children up to 50 pounds in weight
9. Able, unassisted, to walk, talk, hear, stand, see, sit and negotiate stairs
10. Able to work out of doors in all weather
11. Able to work around animals, indoors and outdoors
12. Waldorf education interest or experience
