Experienced Middle School Classroom Assistant
Sep 30 2021 | Ocean Charter School | Del Rey, California
Ocean Charter School uses a Waldorf Educational approach to teach common core standards in a public-school setting. We are accepting applications for middle school Classroom Assistant positions for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate is Waldorf certified, holds a clear multiple subject teaching credential, and would potentially transition into a lead teaching position as a grades teacher in the 2022-2023 school year. Prior teaching experience is preferred. Effective communication with parents and colleagues, and organization is an absolute necessity.
This position is a wonderful opportunity for a teacher candidate to become immersed in Waldorf pedagogy, including storytelling, singing, recitation, movement, watercolor painting, drawing and core curriculum. The Classroom Assistant position requires basic reading, writing, and math skills. Applicants MUST have prior experience working with students in 6th-8th grade as well as special needs students in this age range. The Classroom Assistant position requires high-level communication and management skills with the ability to successfully assist children with conflict resolution. The Classroom Assistant completes his/her work in the background, while the lead teacher is the primary “ego presence” and voice in the classroom.
Applicants must be reliable and punctual, have experience with conflict resolution, young children, special needs students, and have high level communication and management skills.
The position is part-time (29 hours per week), and the hourly rate is $15-$18 per hour.
Responsibilities include:
o Taking direction from the main lesson teacher
o Working with students 1:1 or in small groups
o Performing recess supervision
o Occasionally stepping in for the teacher when needed
o Maintaining a positive and professional image
o Maintaining professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
o Maintaining consistent, punctual, and regular attendance
Send ASAP:
1. Letter of Intent
2. Resume
Qualifications for Classroom Assistant teachers:
