Afterschool Program Teaching Assistant

Waldorf School of Lexington is currently seeking an Afterschool Teaching Assistant for our students in grades 1-5. This part-time, non-benefited position offers the following schedule: 1:30 p.m.– 6:00 p.m., five days a week throughout the school year. This position has an immediate start date.
Responsibilities include:
-Assist and support the Lead Teacher with all afternoon activities (play, snack, projects, dismissal, etc.)
-Supervise children
-Provide room set-up, clean-up, and general maintenance such as washing dishes, vacuuming and sweeping
-Meet with the Lead Teacher for planning and review as needed
-Provide leadership for the group as a substitute if the Lead Teacher is absent
-Refer any serious infractions or injuries to the Lead Teacher
-Refer any parental questions or concerns to the Lead Teacher
Education requirements:
-High School Diploma or GED
-The successful candidate will have an interest in Waldorf education and spending time outdoors.

WSL is sited 12 miles west of Boston in historic Lexington, Massachusetts—an area rich with culture, historic significance, and natural beauty. Abutting our campus is a 185-acre nature preserve and features a sports field, several play gardens, a vegetable garden, and beehives.
Pedagogy and Program
WSL provides an arts-integrated academic education. We offer a curriculum rich in the humanities and sciences as well as practical and fine arts, grounded in the pedagogical principles and methods of Austrian philosopher and educator Rudolf Steiner. Cultivating critical thinking, creativity, and perseverance in our students, we strive to instill an enthusiasm for learning, skills in collaboration, and the confidence to engage in a changing world.
WSL serves nearly 180 students from preschool through grade 8. The school offers a challenging academic program, provided by faculty educated in the understanding of students' cognitive, emotional, and physical developmental stages. Our educational philosophy and culture instills in students respect for themselves, for each other, and for the living world around them. WSL prepares students for a lifetime of engaged, self-directed learning.
