Overview of the Position:

City Garden School is an arts-based and nature-based school inspired by Waldorf education in Columbia, Missouri. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization. We currently offer a full time elementary school for 1st through 5th grade. We also offer a part-time homeschool enrichment program and a middle school enrichment program. We currently meet completely outdoors at Camp Takimina, north of Columbia. Our curriculum aims to help children discover who they truly are, allowing them to explore multiple arts and modalities, while feeding them rich stories and experiences. We strive to give them a morally-centered, nature-based curriculum, and to allow time for true learning to take place. The Director is hired by the Board of Directors and is ultimately responsible to the Board. The Director supervises and evaluates the staff and teachers and is the main contact for families in many circumstances.

Are you the person we’ve been searching for?
We’re looking for someone who is interested in being involved with alternative education and who can help us continue to vision, adapt, and grow. We’re looking for someone passionate about nature and arts-based curriculum. We’re looking for someone willing to shape this future alongside others, including families and teachers, and someone who is able to take into account the wants and needs of the larger community, including continuing to make City Garden accessible to more and more families.

Responsibilities:
-Head of hiring. Ensures orientation, evaluation, conflict resolution, and grievance procedures are conducted in a fair and timely manner.
-Strategically budget, help fundraise, and manage sufficient resources in pursuit of City Garden’s mission.
-Assist the Board of Directors in grant writing.
-Be the main contact for Parent and All-School Communications in partnership with the administrative assistant.
-Lead and carry out the enrollment process with assistance from the staff and administrative assistant.
-Be a liaison between faculty and staff and the Board of Directors.
-Be a vital part of visioning the future of City Garden and include faculty, staff and the Board of Directors in this process.
-Provide professional development for teachers or help them find summer trainings to attend.
-Be a positive and regular presence at the school (some work can be done remotely) to help create an environment and working conditions to support excellent work by both our students and our staff.
-Has school accreditation experience or is willing and ready to learn.
-Communicates to the broader community to garner support and visibility for the school, including social media, local media, and donor communications.

Qualifications: Seeking a highly qualified candidate who:
1) Has extensive leadership experience in education and a commitment to serving children
2) Has a collaborative verbal and written communication style
3) Has a positive attitude and the capacity to work through challenges with persistence and resilience
4) Has excellent organizational and planning skills
5) Has an undergraduate degree or associates degree, with masters preferred


HOURS: 20 hours a week - Part time work with an option for more hours, if desired.
COMPENSATION: Starting salary is $25,000 yearly with an option for more hours and therefore greater pay. Benefits include retirement fund, Big Tree Medical membership, paid time off, and tuition waiver or reduction (% off dependent on part time/full time).
