Early Childhood Kindergarten Assistant Teacher (full- or part-time)
The Orchard Valley Waldorf School is seeking an Early Childhood assistant teacher for our mixed-age kindergarten serving children ages 3-6 at our Montpelier campus, Child’s Garden.
This candidate will have a keen interest in Waldorf educational methods, and a desire to work with a team of seasoned early childhood educators focused on the social and emotional growth of the children in their care with a strong emphasis on nature-based, outdoor activities. This may be a full- or part-time position. Responsibilities include:
Share in the care of the children under the Lead Teacher’s direction.
Implement the Waldorf Curriculum as directed by the Lead Teacher, which may include but is not limited to the following: prepare daily snacks; maintain classroom cleanliness and order; participate in circle and storytime and outdoor activities.
Participate in classroom setup, cleaning, and preparation at the beginning of the school year, and deep cleaning at the end of the school year (one week before and after the student calendar).
Take over the role of the teacher in his/her absence.
The Montpelier campus is a small, rural school that sits on top of a hill overlooking the city of Montpelier. The campus has a big beautiful garden, which the children help care for and the campus encompasses meadows, forests, orchards and the Winooski River. We offer a rich Waldorf curriculum in combined classes.
Qualifications
Waldorf Early Childhood training and experience preferred but not required
Vermont State PreK Teaching License a plus but not required
Qualifications for an Assistant Teacher designation through the state of VT’s child care licensing division
