Special Education Director / Specialist

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Under the direction of the school Administrator, leads a team to foster student success academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally. Collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to create a safe, healthy and supportive learning environment that strengthens connections between home, school and the community for all students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates all special education programs and services;
Coordinates weekly team meeting with service providers;
Acts as the administrative designee at all special education meetings;
Responsible for attending mandated SELPA meetings;
Responsible for SELPA program related reporting requirements;
Interprets and implements all state and federal special education requirements to ensure compliance;
Responsible for hiring staff and independent contractors;
Responsible for supervising and evaluating all special education staff and independent contractors;
Plans and implements professional development programs;
Responsible for student records system (SEIS);
504 plan coordinator
Responsible for ensuring delivery of all the prescribed services on IEPs;
Responsible for special education budget;
Routinely meets with the school director, attends quarterly Charter Council meetings, and weekly faculty meetings.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Current California Special Education Teaching Credential required
Minimum of 5 years special education teaching experience required
Work experience in Waldorf Education preferred
COMMITMENT & DEPENDABILITY
Willing to work in a timely, accurate, organized, and efficient manner. Ensures confidentiality with student records and other confidential information. Interacts professionally and diplomatically with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff. Committed to reporting suspected child abuse and/or neglect according to state law.
